coming home from newmarket yesterday, and the road was flooded. I WAS going to turn around but was a tiny country road and had a couple of 4x4 up my ass.

the car in front - a punto went for it and just made it through (with a lot of smoke)

i got halfway through when it occured to me my car is lower than a punto.

had it stalled, i would have been stuffed, the water was above the door sil.

luckily i got through, (engine coughing a bit but my numberplate came off its clip.

still, could have been worse. I may go back an look for it, but its 10 miles away from home so not sure its worth it really.

where is the cheapest place for a new front plate?

i wont be doing that again!.

cheers

You'll probably need your logbook. Is Discount Autoparts still there in Cambridge - them or Halfrauds I guess.

As MRS said, you'll need your V5. IIRC, Halfrauds charged me £14 for a standard plate last year.

And you were lucky. A few years back my good lady tried to drive throught a smallish flood in her Galaxy. Sucked water up through the air-intake and killed the engine frown

There are traders on Ebay who can supply number plates without the need of a V5, worth a look as a single plate would cost you less then £15 delivered.

Indeed, That was a hell of a risk considering just hot temperamental Italian electronics are at the best of times. The coupe air intake is relatively low so it doesn't take much!

I payed £7.49 for a pair, they arrived the next day too. Thats the cheapest I could find.

Just pointing out the legalities there, Joe. this DVLA page lists the requirements for having one made; and this page tells you what they have to look like.

I'm sure there's a requirement for the maker's name and/or postcode, too, but I can't see it there.

New Rules were introduced a few years ago

I had to change the Comp system at my dads garage to cater for this.

Anyone who requires a numberplate must provide Documentation for the vehicle and also two versions of Identification. Ie Drivers Licence, Utility bill etc...

Tops stuff. Have you got that link to the £5 ebay plates, I'm changing over ours at the mo so could do with some replacement plates.

Thanks,

Matt wink

That is lucky.

I took mine through what appeared to be just a big puddle, as I rounded the corner there was an X5 stopped ahead with it's hazards on. Into neutral, left foot break while maintaining high revs and reverse out.

The lights gave a bit of a flicker, there was plenty of steam and a squealing belt but I made it back out with dry feet. I was mighty proud of the Coop at that point. Who says they're unreliable?

the coop is great in puddles!

I drove around (not through choice, my young brother in law was AWOL) during the floods in Hull a couple of years ago and passed many cars that had given up either in the middle of the water or at the end of it.

keep it very slow and kep the revs up and it will happily travel through water up to the bottom of the doors.

Loads of steam from the exhaust tho laugh

Paul
