Some time over the next few weeks my coop will be going in for a little bit of a rebuild. Incresing the power of my coop is all a big learning curve for me so i wanted someone to explain to me the issues of running high power on a standard head. I currently run a 2871r with the 86 housing and if all goes to plan i will have new forged rods, pistons and a set of new "fast road" cams .I will also have the fuel pressure increased on my current 440cc injectors, a larger maf and another remap courtesy of leighton at fc performance. so question being, am i asking for trouble keeping the head as standard?Last thing i want is bent valves Any input would be appreciated. Many thanks

I would just strip it down, clean it in a chemical bath, re-lap all the valves, squash out the old oil form the tappets, check for wear etc.. basically a simple refurbishment. It shouldn't cost you more than a few quid if you do it yourself. A good head refurbishment from a local machine shop may charge around £150-£250.
IMO the STD head will be good for what your aiming for.

Sounds like your aiming for more power than me, but I am fully forged, fast road cams and a standard head, with no problems. Running 381bhp on an RSR.

By the way, how come you are rebuilding anyway? Also are'nt you forged at the minute?

If you want to increase the VE then you would need headwork but it depends on how much money you want to spend. There is not really a point where you can say I need to do this as any decent headwork should give you a benefit but its where in the rpm range. You could spend hundreds to thousands on headwork so for now I would stick with a basic rebuild and see the results and if you’re in pursuit for more power you will at least have a dyno plot to help you develop the correct areas of the cylinder head you want to improve upon.

Thats great tj. I decided to go forged not really because i wanted more power, but simply to reduce the chance of piston damage or bending a rod.The cars pretty much at its limits now as it is. But if i will be able to gain more power from running higher boost,i wont be one to complain.

Freddan, Do you run that boost regularly? How long have you had you car running that boost?
