After doing loads of reading all day ive come to the conclusion that you shouldnt use a primer...or better phrased.... you dont need to use primer when using VHT or VHT Wrinkle paint. The paint is designed to adhere to the bare metal especially when designed to withstand high temps.

Its been noted in a few places that using a primer or the wrong primer will result in the paint cracking.

the reason for this is the primer may expand and contract at a different temp to that of the overlaying paint and thus cause it to come off or crack.

The recommended way is to clean the surface properly and apply the paint directly onto that.

I do think that using VHT paint is overkill though. The green paint on my roof gets far hotter in the sun than my rocker cover would ever get laugh

I am deffo going to do this mod. Having been taunted with AP1s rocker cover over the last year I can resist no longer. The black just looks fantastic. On the plus side the new oven I have fitted in my kitchen may well be big enough to fit the cover laugh

VHT may be a bit overkill but ide rather use that than have to do it again, plus they do a wrinkle paint and its only a fiver...

Your misses is going to love you john! laugh

I've done two covers now and used etch primer on both.

Is there anywhere I buy the correct wrinkle paint without going online? Looked in the usual places with no luck.

nope - not that i know of...

I believe VHT Wrinkle is imported from the states.
I just brought two cans off ebay from a uk seller cost me 20 odd quid inc postage not bad really.

How come you dont want to buy it online if you dont mind me asking laugh

Just thought I could get it today rather than having to wait for the weekend plus a few days for postage.
