Oil cap (good idea or bad idea)

This is something I thought would look good, but now I'm not so sure. Good idea or bad idea?

I was trying to recreate the petrol cap off an old MZ motobike that I had over 25 years ago. Not quite achieved the look of this, but then I guess this would have been cast somehow (wish I knew how). Might have been pre-berlin wall but the east germans made a pretty impressive petrol cap. Arguably the best thing on the bike by far...

I have had two type of alloy cap. The trouble is they look nice enough but as the coupe oil level is read when warm it is a mare to remove the hot cap to top up.

Also I quite like the styling of the plastic cap smile

mmm. As much as I hate to admit it, I'm tending to think that too.
Fullpint - sorry but no idea how they engraved it tbh. I had the cap previously and just got in engraved using the LE plaque as the artwork. But I'm very unconvinced this wasn't just an expensive lesson (£30) that this isn't really an improvement on the black plastic.

Looks good to me, even better if you filled the lettering in with colour.

That looks great...I've been trying over the years to get an alloy cap like that without luck...let me know if you decide to go back to plastic!

Slightly off topic, but anyone know where to get the polished steel oil caps? On an on topic way, wouldn't it be easier to get one of them and put a design on that?

Yes personally I like it but the writing would have to be parallel with the head otherwise it'll look odd.

If you do a GB I'd be interested for sure.

I think it needed a bit of colour (credit to Bilbo for suggesting adding colouring to the letters). Starting to grow on me a bit more now. Still a case of style over substance as admittedly not that practical.

Thats the thing mine is a Plus.

What could we have scripted for that?

Maybe just:

'Fiat Coupe'

'20VT Plus'

OR

'Fiat Coupe'

'20 Valve Turbo'

'Plus'

gb indeed - it should be cheaper and better looking for Plus's as there's less lettering lol!

I'd be willing to do a group buy, but to be honest I'm not sure they'd be that much interest. It cost me £30 to get it engraved using the alloy cap that I'd already got (which I think in itself cost about £30). So more than a little bit OTT.

So where did you get the alloy cap from?

there is a lot of interest in the alloy cap if it can be reproduced...

You'll need asbestos gloves to take it off after the engine has been running - I'll stick with my plastic one!
