Just a quick question on lag. Does a good FMIC like an evo or pro alloy reduce turbo lag?

It seems that they even increase it Is this right?

I haven't noticed any difference to be honest - have the Evo 6.5, they do raise the boost a little as you don't get the same pressure drop across them

A good FMIC won't increase lag - i.e the Pro Alloy one or an Evo one. The PACE FMIC will increase lag as its a double pass system - i.e the air goes into and comes out of the same side of the intercooler. Don't get one of these !

Get a straight induction mod if you want to decrease lag - excellent mod.

Hi Jayell,

I've seen many using them (straight induction) and I've seen the pipe already, but how exactly the pipe reduces turbo lag

And where does it sits?

You're asking the wrong person mate - rather like women, I know what they look like and how much they cost but have absolutely no idea how they work

Look here - the left side connects straight to the turbo inlet, the air filter sits very low in the engine bay where the standard sidemount intercooler used to sit, getting a good cold air feed.

The straight induction pipe reduces lag by enabling the turbo to spool up more easily. The shorter length of induction pipework causes less of a restriction to air entering the turbo.

A restrictive intercooler like the Pace FMIC causes more lag but because the turbo has more difficulty forcing air through it and hence wont spool up as quick.
The more restrictive the intercooler is, the more pressure is lost across it meaning less boost pressure at your inlet manifold.

thanks cosmo

But wont a less restrictive pipe and filter be a contribution to engine wear?

Only in the way that using more power more often does (assuming that the filter does filter).

Yes! that's a point. But it would be great if we could raise hp without engine wear

And we can agree that a fmic does just that since the temps are lower and the flow is higher.

That's not the case of a less restrictive air filter that supposedly permits bigger particles to enter the engine. And I'm imagining that with the fact that the pipe is conected directly to the turbo manifold so I'm a bit concerned with that
