I will hopefully be fitting my newly refurbed turbo this weekend. I was going to leave the setup standard, but the AGM changed all that, so I am now looking at fitting a sport cat to go with my stage 1 turbo and longlife stainless exhaust before a flea map. the turbo has a stepped piston ring so I dont think I should have any problems with knackering the turbo.

I am reading about 100/200 cell cats, but what is the difference? I want to stay legal so a decat pipe is not on my shopping list.

What sort of power will these free up, not that I think that standard car is slow, but I can see me going down a steady route of "sensible" mods.

I have done a search (sorry if the search engine missed anything too recent), but it doesnt look like this topic has been discussed for a while, so any new opinions/products would be welcomed.

Thanks

I went for a 200 cell cat because the 100 only *might* get you through mot. That said, the 200 cell should be less effective than the standard one so if something is wrong with your emissions, you're bound to find out sooner with the 200 cell.

In terms of power, to be honest, you won't really notice a difference. Maybe you'll see the engine revs slightly more freely up the rev range, maybe you'll release 5 bhp more (or more if something is blocked in your current cat) but all in all you'll just 1/ enable exhaust gasses to move more freely out of the exhaust which will 2/ get the engine running a bit cooler which in turn 3/ might enable a custom mapping to take advantage of the setup and squeeze out another 10 or so bhp on top.

But just make sure you get a high quality cat. There's 200 cells that cost 100 quid, there's 200 cells that cost 400 quid. They ARE very different. You get what you pay for.
