Hi, I'm fitting a handle to an old magnifying glass which has a stripped thread [pictured] Can anyone advise me the best way to make this screw-thread fit it please? The locksmith gave me the double-ended thread but it's slightly small. Thanks.

Epoxy putty. You can get it from Barbecue or Halfords. Squidge it up, poke it in the hole, and screw the thread in, trim off the excess and stand back for half an hour while it sets. You may or may not be able to unscrew the thread afterwards, but if you use that double thread thing that's not an issue.

Buy a new magnifying glass And then use it to look at the thread. Bingo, the thread will be enlarged.
Dear monos, a secret truth.

Not enough wall thickness for that.(Imho) As Barnacle says, use epoxy putty.Alternatively you could have new pieces made. ETA:That thread the locksmith gave you looks more like a leadscrew to me.

Buy a new magnifying glass Surprise comment from a master of reclamation! @ Enforcer, Ptfe tape won't work as no thread in glass surround and in any case I can't afford your consultation fees Me likey Evostik stuff which sets hard enough to support a Shard. The glass is if not prehistoric, antique, and is really strong, working from any distance. I'm not good at bunging these things away but as yet the tv companies have not caught up with me. Thanks for the advice - I'm surprised there were no comments about myopia, but soon I'll be able to see them coming

Would that make it any more advantageous, apart from the fact that leadscrews are strong enough to be used to raise and lower the front doors of Boeing 747 freighter aircraft?
