fitted my k&n panel over a std paper filter and you hear a low recirc dump valve tshh and seems to pick up nicer the 57i will sound nicer but suffer heat sink until your moving but you could try an air duct to help cool.. i tried this a number of years ago on a 20vt i took to the ring. research on here would suggest a good panel filter ideal until you start stage2-3 tuning? then a sip a good option. maybe hardly noticeable in most situations so if so then a case of more or less noise! both great on these 5 pots!!!! may be a good idea to fit a boost guage too lance theres an install guide here on the forum and it really is a simple effective way to keep an eye on the boost. all the best mitch

I have tried K&N Cone, K&N Panel and the Apexi Cone Filter, and the Apexi is awesome, sounds great, looks great and retains low end.

Ive got a mint k+n cone filter on mine, if anyone fancies a swap for std airbox + panel filter, let me know. Likewise. The huge suuuuuuuckk, tshhhhhhhh noises just makes me sound like a chav in a scooby going up the high street. Reckon a change to a decent panel fitler in the standard airbox will quieten that down a bit, let me hear a bit more of the wonderful exhaust note and not be detrimental to performance.

I agree I'm too old to be a Chav or a boy racer, I will go with the panel filter route and be a valocity test engineer :-)

Just swapped over my K&N 57i cone for an OE airbox with K&N panel. I've only had one drive out in it since changing over (good excuse for some test-drives), so cannot really comment on the performance differences yet, but I can say the noise difference is dramatic. It has really quietened down the induction roar and 'tshhh' from the recirc dump-valve (neither of which I liked very much). Now I can just revel in the sound from the exhaust without sounding (too) chavvy! Those who like induction and blow-off noises, stick with the cone!

If the OE is too quite for you and the K&N is too loud...Id suggest a ITG Filter...it think it falls in between.

Yes - I've been using K&N for 10,000's of miles with no problems whatsoever. Yep , me too.
Horsing around's a serious business.

Does anyone have the K and N panel filter part number?
I need to source one here in Canada where no one knows what a Coupe is.
And... Is there a guide to drilling the air box to increase flow?

For which model (although there may be little or no difference) as your profile gives no clue. Use a (2" diameter?) hole cutter as often as reasonably possible to retain structural integrity, only on the supply side and nearest any cool air inflow

Drilling the air box gives no improvement at all as proved several times on the rollers. It gives you more noise if that's your bag but nothing else. It's an often mentioned "standard airbox" modification for Puntos (I've not done so myself), where the airbox is across the front of the engine bay. I was addressing the 'how' not the 'why'. The OP needs to assess these ideas for him/herself.

Hey, each to their own. I was only sharing the experience of others who have tried this. Nigel even went to the lengths of making a variable air box to see if it made any difference- unfortunately it didn't but it was an engineering master piece. Mityrare, try K&N Pt No 33-2689 as advertised here; http://www.knfilters.com/air_filter/fiat_coupe.aspx
