You raise a very good point here Dave, dependant on the grade of rubber being used it might be possible it's going soft leading to the filter becoming loose.

This is a thread for the discussion of filters coming loose, if some wish to over tighten them and that's their solution to engineering problems then fine, we get it!
No need to reiterate.

My mistake.I didnt see any recognition for the responses so just making sure.

Might be worth putting this in the correct section to see if anyone can shed some insight in the Technical problems page.
Hope you find a solution, keep us informed.

Did anyone get to this?

My last filter -coopers- didn't loosen. My current filter -coopers- has been tightened up twice.

I think the next few times at the gym I'm working on my grip laugh

Without causing an argument here, I freely admit to
Over tightening these filters.im yet to have one come loose.
So that's my solution to an engineering problem and it works well.
If anyone else wants to play by the book then it's upto them but I would rather a potential issue on removal than it wrecking an 2k engine.

Not everything in the Fiat workshop manual has to be taken as gospel I.e if you torque the top right bolt on the cam cover it shears the corner off.
These figures are a guideline but a bit of common sense needs to apply if your not happy with it.

My view on this is that I haver always used longer filters and tightened them by hand and then "a bit". Only recently have I used a short OE filter and and due to the location I just nipped it up hand tight as per the instructions. This is clearly not enough.
My personal solution is to use longer filter and tighten them beyond the Fiat torque as it is easy enough to remove them.

I've only ever done them hand tight, for all of the negatives there is one positive - all that oil on the cooler pipes! No tin worm.

I'm with JBT on this, I'm gonna tighten it until my face is blue.

In the coupe.
I use copy short Mann filter. I do give them a real hard twist when closing.
No problems so far on my two coupes.

Common sense only arrives with expierience imo.
