Hi all,

hoping for a quick favour - need to get the beast fired up and ready for tidy up for summer and back on the road...
However Ive laid her off for over 6 months now.

Last thing i want to do is fire her straight up - I have no idea how to prime her and i admit to being mechanically retarded crazy

So if anyone is around the West Midlands or passing near to Kenilworth i would really appreciate a hand - happy to bribe with a crate of beer laugh

PM or reply here - it would be great
Thanks

Most cars will start fine after a lay up.

But... you could put a fuel stabiliser in the tank and leave a short while to sort out stale fuel.

You could also make sure the battery is well charged first.

And remove coil/spark plug connections and let the engine crank a few times to prime/circulate oil and make sure fuel pump primes.

Other than that.... if it starts it starts.... if it doesn't it's shagged and start figuring out why.

Or you could do what I do with the 20vt engine in the kit - charge battery, turn key... Politeness to the engine internals suggests that you should remove the injector clips and turn it over a few times until the oil pressure is up, but beyond that it's just normal maintenance: fluids, tyre pressure and such like.

I'm not a fan of fuel additives.

I would,

- put some fresh super unleaded in using a jerry-can as petrol supposedly only has a 3 month shelf life so at least when it mixes the car will have some good in the tank.

- Charge battery over night so that IF it does take a bit of cranking you can have several goes.

Check oil and coolant level then put a splash of oil in the engine so the top has some to flick round.

Fingers crossed.

Remember to push the clutch in as you start the car.

Put some fresh fuel in, check your belts for cracks and just fire it up and let it idle, it'll be fine.

Make sure the alternator is not seized through inactivity, if it is, you risk shredding your aux belt...

Another way to just crank over without starting is to undo the connector on the cam/phase sensor (ie: just 1 clip instead of 5 on the injectors)
