My old band having just cut a new album have a shout at playing the Planet Rock Steel House Festival.

There are a few bands going up for this and those with the most views on YouTube will get a slot on the bill.

Here is the page

http://www.steelhousefestival.com/botb.html
The band is called Celtic Pride.

Please have a listen and give it a thumbs up if you like the track.

Thanks fellow Fcukkers.

Gareth

Yes you would have thought that the band who has toured the longest and played the most gigs, would be consummate professionals, the absolute pinnacle of live performance. They sounded like they hadn't practiced in decades.
Luckily, Sky arts had a Download 2013 special on. So i watched that instead .

In my opinion Primal Scream blew the Stones off the stage.... the Chase and Status set would have been my choice at that time of the night even though it is not really my scene.

Being perfect is hardy what Rock n Roll is about, is it? But I agree that Mick's voice was below par.

I thought the rest of the band (and plethora of support musicians) were their usual great selves. Charlie Watts, despite looking 100 years old, still keeps a better beat than a lot of younger drummers.

I suspect that a lot of it is down to it not being their gig. Their one (all be it headline) act amongst a weekend of other acts. They're not going to have thrown the money behind it like they would one of their own arena shows.

I've never seen them live but my mum has twice; once at the Millennium Stadium a few years ago and once at a small gig the year before their first album came out.

She said the more recent gig was excellent and the DVDs I've watched support this (I'm aware there will be some post-production work before they put it on the shelves).

I for one am glad they're still going. Clearly they won't be as good today as, perhaps, 10, 20 or 30 years ago (it's a physical job) but more and more people are getting to see one of the greatest bands of all time because they haven't hung up their instruments yet.

I would have loved to have been old enough to see Led Zepellin live, for example.

I'm waiting to hear my stepdaughter's first hand view of the Stones' performance, but if I'd had to choose between seeing them or Arctic Monkeys, I'd have gone with the latter every time.
My Problem with the Stones is that they have become the most corporate band in history; their negotiations with the BBC about how much of their show they would deign to allow to be seen were just depressingly embarrassing.

I have a good friend who saw the Stones in London on their recent tour, paying 2 x £685 for a pair of tickets to do so - she says it's the best show she's ever seen, and she's seen thousands.... she'd happily pay it again should the opportunity arise. She says last night was probably 75% of the quality of their own show, so Ali makes a valid point

I'm with you on the corporate point, I mean don't they have enough money to see them out?, being money grabbing b*stards isn't very rock & roll is it!

I agree with this. But I do wonder how much is the individual band members and how much is the record label trying to milk every last penny out of a soon-to-be-over brand.

That said, if the band cared enough, they could surely get they own way.

One benefit of being old! Zeppelin at Earls Court in 1975. Three and a quarter hours of rock n roll heaven love .

I saw Ian Anderson performing the two Jethro Tull Thick as a Brick albums five hours ago at the Albert Hall. A cracking night - Ian doesn't sing so well any more, so he shared a lot of the vocal work with Ryan O'Donnell and Marc Almond shocked and it worked really well. Good show with elements of humour; the band members all appeared wearing long brown coats and swept the stage with brooms before picking up their instruments and startling the audience by kicking off the set..... Locomotive Breath as an encore. Prog heaven!

Have I ever mentioned that I hate you? rage laugh

Bonham died before I was even born. I've still never quite mastered his half-time shuffle from Fool in the Rain.

I suspect that you will still be hating me when I'm dead though.... wink . The 70s was definitely the best era for watching live music. The biggest bands in the world were still doing small halls and university campuses all over the country. In the same week that I saw Zep at Earls Court I saw both Yes and Genesis at the Southampton Gaumont (although I had to queue overnight for decent tickets), and 2 weeks later I saw Lynyrd Skynyrd at Portsmouth Guildhall. A great night out. Queen, Robin Trower, Lindisfarne, Pink Floyd (OK, back at Earls Court), Tangerine Dream, Bad Company, Barclay James Harvest, Jethro Tull, Status Quo, Wishbone Ash, and so on...... Fairport Convention, Steeleye Span, Ralph McTell and Jasper Carrot at the uni folk club crazy

Led Zep at Earls court, also VERY jealous, I took up the sticks at 12 and Bonham was my hero! I spent hours hammering out Bonham licks with the headphone turned up to 11…hence my current tinnitus probably.

The best live shows I ever saw?

Queen. Three times in the seventies; Freddie (god rest his soul) was the most charismatic front man ever, and in the 70s they could rock with the best of them. Just brilliant.

Obviously Led Zep, and Pink Floyd doing their last ever performance of The Wall, again at Earls Court. Dave Gilmour on top of the wall in silhouette with a spotlight behind him playing the guitar solos from Comfortably Numb still makes what little hair I have left stand up. The journey home was a nightmare as the tube trains were full of polystyrene blocks from the wall being carried home by fans as souvenirs; the capacity of each train was down by 2/3rds!

Happy memories..........
