I hope you never do anything by accident Chrissy, could see you being blamed for something terrible that you didn't intend.
I know what you are saying and we'll probably never know truth, but being so far detached and reading what's in the media it's hard to tell. People have come out to be "witnesses" and if they are anything like some of those in famous cases in recent months over here their statements could be sensationalised.

It will be a debate that goes nowhere on here, Peoples views are all very different.
All I know is, If some hot headed boyfriend had killed my daughter regardless of a mistaken identity, I would want him behind bars, even more so having learned he has a gun under the bed, Regardless too of society in S Africa, it to me just isn't normal.
Pull the trigger - pay the price Mr big shot. From what I've heard from friends who live there its perfectly normal. A constant vulnerability is a daily occurance with people who will kill you for no reason what so ever. Its so bad that if someone is ran over in the road, cars and trucks will continue to drive over the body than risk stopping to assist. Added to the fact that he is disabled and has the increased celebrity status I think having a gun is necessary in that environment. The press will only publicise witnesses claiming screams were heard before the event and not the ones thereafter when he realised what he had done. If it was a genuine mistake then the poor chap will have life in prison mentally anyway. If not then its down to the courts to decide what the circumstances were surrounding the murder and decide the punishment. But yes if it was your own daughter regardless of being innocent or not you would want him imprisoned.

My brother is a judge. Perhaps we should make him redundant and rely on the opinions formed by what has been in the media?
On the other hand, a detailed knowledge of the law may be a little more useful.

I simply can't believe there's even a trial, what is there to think about? Well I don't know how it works in SA, but in the UK there are incentives for entering a guilty plea early, up to a one third reduction in your sentence, I believe*. So presumably he thinks there is enough** reasonable doubt that he can be found not guilty. Even if he thinks there's a 99% chance of being found guilty he's not short of a bob or two and would rather take the chance of getting off rather than spend the rest of his life in prison. Can you honestly say that if it was you you'd say, "Fair cop, guv"? * Not sure how this works for murder, which carries a mandatory life sentence. ** Or his lawyers can create enough

What I do oppose is condemning a man before hearing his version of events I'm sure I've read something like that somewhere
Does our law condemn a man without first hearing him to find out what he has been doing? (John 7:51)

Even if he mistook her for an intruder (that I highly doubt) then it's still murder,
No, it's not. Homicide, which is the simple description of killing a person whether or not a crime is committed, is distinct from murder, the legal definition of the crime of killing a person. If he were to have shot and killed an intruder he would not have committed a crime.

SA law allows the use of deadly force to protect property, let alone the person ,even when pursuing thieves who have run off with your belongings, remember we are talking about the country which allows car alarms to deploy flamethrowers on either side of the vehicle to incinerate would be carjackers!

I'd like to think if I woke up during the night and found Ms RK wasn't in bed, then heard someone in the bathroom, that I would realise it was probably her and not some homicidal maniac who deserved putting to sleep.

Without looking at many of the facts, my completely biased view is that, I suspect he did it following an argument with her, then felt very very guilty afterwards. The fact that he shot her through the door makes me think he did it in a fit of rage, yet at the same time didn't want to look her in the eye when he did it. The whole intruder thing just seems unlikely given that the number 1 thought if you hear a noise in the bathroom in the middle of the night.... is ...it's the Mrs. Killing ones lover/parter/wife is one of the most common homicides.

Killing ones lover/parter/wife is one of the most common homicides. That's rubbish, I've only killed two of my previous wives, compared with four tramps and a hooker.

I tried to apply the same logic to Mrs. Jimbob, but quickly realised there's really no distinction between the two.
