Recently got Deme's 16VT on the dyno. Completely stock engine internals. Just a decat and K&N filter - oh, and a bit of Voodoo magic wink :

Stock T3 turbo and upgraded to "Voodoo spec". hybrid, designed to meet Deme's request of a reasonably priced turbo capable of 300 bhp, plus scope for more in the future:
Escort Cosworth "big turbo" T34 compressor and comp. housing
Garrett "stage. 3" turbine
brand new .48 a/r hot-side machined to fit turbine
360 deg thrust bearing, bolted
staggered-gap oil seal
1 bar actuator

Stock 16VT turbo elbow thrown in the bin where it belongs and downpipe modded with 2.5" stainless elbow.

All built and live-mapped by yours truly!

I've built several turbos and exhaust systems for my self but this was the first time I'd built items for another person, so I was probably twice as nervous as Deme as his car was strapped down on to the rollers!
Anyway, the results:

An interesting side-note: The wheel horsepower figure isn't shown on the printout, but it was about 282 bhp ATW - just 10 bhp coast-down losses, as opposed to 20 or 30-odd bhp you usually see on various dynos.

So it made about 10-20 bhp more at the wheels than other comparable 16VTs that I could find and 4 bhp more than, er, my own Coupe when running my old T3/T04e 44-trim ooo

1.45 bar of boost I'm guessing??
Good result there KJ!
Do you think a smigdeon mus boost ( and bigger map sensor) would have seen 300 horses! Hard to get to with the 48 housing.... On coupes anyway!
Am I right in thinking turbine housing has been machined for stage 3 wheel?

Nick

368bhp @ 1.5 bar

Great result KJ and Deme

300bhp/300ft/lbs is impressive on a standard engine, I see the power run ended pretty early rev wise but I assume this is due to the fact peak power had been reached at circa 5400?

Are the revs correct - I just note BHp and torque dont cross at 5250rpm - also intersted as per the question above about reving it out?

Have you got a boost curve, what boost was it at?. I see it is on the bottom of the posted graph but I cant read it. I ask just to see when the stage 3 makes full boost - circa 4000-4500rpm, I used to run the stage 2 in a .48 which was about 3500-4000rpm from memory

anyway impressive result, in no way are the above questioning results just keen for a bit more info

Cheers, peeps. And no worries about questions.

Nick: peak boost is 1.35 bar. That's right, brand new housing machined for stage 3 turbine. I think more boost would make 300bhp - Or possibly better still, adjusting cam timing to make peak power at higher revs.

I have a hunch that it may be possible to time the stock Coupe cams to make peak power at higher rpm, yet still produce good torque. I have a set of adjustable cam pulleys in development at the moment, which I'm testing on my own Coupe. My cams aren't stock though, so I need to test my theory on a Coupe with stock cams.
-------------------------------------------------
Saint: That's right it was just because peak power was around 5400. The redline is 6800 rpm.

Revs are correct. Power and torque only cross at 5250 when the scales are on the same scale (and in bhp and lbsft) Power and torque scales are different here.

Peak boost is 1.35 bar at around 5400. Boost at peak torque is about 1.2 bar. On the road the car starts pulling hard about 3800-4000 rpm.
--------------------------------------------------------
Scuderia: Yep, S-trim. 48.8mm in./69mm ex., 50-trim

Hi. The turbo talked about in this thread is my T34 hybrid upgrade, which can make around 300 bhp on stock pistons. PM me and I'll give you more info smile

Hi guys. Yep moved to London! But I still go out that direction (well to Newbury at least) to dyno cars.

Rush: The 16VT and the 20VT are doing fine at the moment. How's you and the Coupe?

Tom: Hows the 16VT doing after our latest map? laugh Have you got out on any more track days yet?
