I know the 16VT inlet manifold has come in for some slagging in the past for being restrictive.

In fact the grale guys reckon there manifold can be 20BHP better than the coupe/alfaQ4/kappa manifold

I guess the problem is with the 180 swan neck on the manifold - gas exits the pelum heading towards the firewall and does a 180 curve to get into the head

Anyway one done a comparison, to the integrale? got pics? or had a custom one made (inlet manifold). got feedback

Cheers

Vas is using grale inlet but with our throttlebody...
V reckons he's seen considerable gains using the grale one... think i'll leave mine tho for time being, and see what sort of bhp i get when mapped.....

here is photo of my old inlet manifold (standart 16v/vt coupe):

here is photo of my new inlet manifold wich is originaly in kappa 16VT:

I think that kappa is the best choice, because it has larger plenum and short, straight runners..

and here you can read more about fitting issues with this manifold:

I haven´t done road test yet but engine feels much stronger with response like motorbike

Here is a Tipo with what look like an Integrale manifold.

That Kappa manifold is a weird one! The angle of the runners do not look right for the ports.

That's a very strange comment to make about the Kappa manifold??
The guys are using it specifically because the runners are the same angle as the ports.

the lower swan neck of the std manifold is a fair bit off the port dimensions, Begbie and myself had them ported to match the gasket. I'm about to change mine to GC 16v DCOE inlet which are 80mm runners to twin DCOE flange, then to 30mm throttle bodies then to air box. THe DCOE manifold would make a good startin point for a new plenum and single body should you want that, but the kappa one looks good as it is.

I dynoed my car first with the stock manifold, switched to a grale one, and the following day dynoed the car again and if I remember correctly it was something like 15-20bhp up! [wasn't as straightforward, as car was running lean at the time and second run was at a lower boost producing similar output, so I calculated the expected gains on same pressure]

Problems of fitting the grale manifold:
1. different throttle cable (longer) needed and custom mounting point on the throttle side
2. need to find another place to put the 2 coil packs
3. good excuse to scrap the stock leads and get good quality shorter ones if fitting the packs closer to the cylhead
4. different path for the fuel rail supply
5. need for an external fpr (used a malpasi adjustable one)
6. if you do, please spend the time to strip and clean the manifold (grale ones are black so looks shit on the all white cylhead on the coupe rolleyes )

Can use a larger throttle as well, didn't bother and reused the stock one.

Hope it helps

V.

thanks V

As for number 5 can I ask why? - does it hit something?

15-20bhp is a fair gain.

Cheers

there aint one on the fuel rail Paul, simple wink
(and I don't think you can fit your old one in there tbh)

Ah, also disconnected the coolant supply and return pipes to the throttle body so now I get slightly lower charge temps as well.

This is what the type of fuel rail you will need

Back 2 tiems
then an agjustable FPR

Then inlet manifold which has been ported out and matched to the gasket (being the swan type) loses me 7CFM due to the bend...

Gasket matching
before and after porting
Oooh shiney
Inlet differences
CFM reduction because of the bend

p.s. will reply to your PM later
