Hi All,

I felt my car was feeling a little sluggish recently (one of things where you are sure if its just in your head or not).

So i decided to fit a boost gauge on the weekend to make sure there was not boost problems. All seems ok so i also got round to fitting a gtec chip and PRV i have had lying around for a while.

Def faster - but still not quite the kick i was expecting.

Never the less i have decided to get the fuelling checked. I remember someone on here mention a rolling road in chesterfield.
http://www.noblemotorsport.co.uk/
This is not far from me so i rang and booked in for next Monday. I assumed a power run and fuelling check would be approx £60. When i emailed them with what i was after and how much it would cost i got the following response:

We would normally advise a full rolling road set up. We would during the set up go through and check, set , adjust as necc. We would then at the end present you with a power and torque printout.

The cost of a full set up is £145.00 Inc vat.

what exactly would they check, adjust and setup....

If anyone knows of an alternative rolling road in the midlands that they recommend (with better prices) please do tell :-)

any advice much appreciated

Thanks

Dan

I went there 2 months ago and wasn't to happy with the service. You are not allowed to view your car as its taken in behind shutter doors. I payed £70.50 for a power run and fueling check, my car was in there for 20 mins. Why my mates car was taken in after mine, i had to wait about 1 hour for the results to my car, i had not got a clue if it was ok or not they kept me in the dark.

I am going for another rolling road in afew weeks at power station which are recommended on here and know abit about the coupe

Also i wouldn't pay £145 as they can't adjust anything anyway, As its all programmed into the chip. All they can do is set the boost which you might already know should be 1.2 bar on a gtec.

If you want to know anymore about it send me a pm.

Ash

yes i have set it to 1.2 bar - so as i thought there is not much they can adjust (if anything).

hmm what to do...

I might see if i can get a £70 power run and fueling check. Did they give you some graphs with this? Failing that might cancel completely and go to power station (Power station would be 1hr 40 mins away - which is ok i guess).

Thanks for the quick response Ash

Dan

Hi All,

I emailed them back today requesting just a power run and fuelling check for £70 as per Ash. They agreed to this.

I did ask what exactly they would adjust on the £145 run, but they didnt respond to that question....

I do wounder quite what extra you would get for their £145 run... Possibly just a sales pitch???

Anyway will go to noblemotorsport on monday and see how it goes.

Are there any specific graphs i should ask for??

Thanks again

Dan

Ok mike when i have sorted out what date etc i will send you a pm, There might be a couple of us coupes going \:\)

Dan, you will get a power/torque graph which shows you the boost level and fueling (the fueling is marked by lambda not afr)
Make sure above 3k its between 7.5-8.5 and starts to go lower at higher revs.

When you have been and got the graph post it up and we can have a look.

Ash

That does sound a bit iffy to me. Do you really want to go somewhere that was fully prepared to charge you double your new price?

Also, I'd want to be able to physically see the car being tested. Deffo wouldn't want it to be done "behind closed doors" as it were. \:\(

Each to their own though I suppose. \:\)

I was also very dissapointed with Nobles I had a full set up

Had to wait about 4 hour when they probably spent half hour on it I heard the car on the rollers 3 times but never seen anything.

I was given my print out and that was it I never got the chance to ask any questions as they seemed to busy.Nothing was explained to me and I specifically stated the main thing I was interested in was the AFR.

I will never go back to Nobles.

Anyone got anything good to say about them ! he he

Well i guess I’m tempted to cancel, but if I can get a reliable reading with a decent graph for £70 then i may still go ahead. - would like to see my car as they tinker with it though - you have to ask - what do they have to hide??

Decisions decisions…

They won't let you watch your car even if you ask, as i asked them and they said it was to do with the noise from the cars.

The graph you get is good and nice and clear. But you can come down to powerstation with the rest of use if you want to go that way.

Yep Powerstation are very friendly, let you watch your car & are happy to discuss the results afterwards. They also have an AFR gauge which they watch all the way through the run(s) and will back-off if any fuelling issues are spotted.

As previously mentioned - a no-brainer

I've pm'd ash p about a few of us going to power station, i'd be ready to go next sat, but if thats too much short notice could prob do the followin one????
I'm taking a program to them (already discussed with them), and they are gonna burn the chip for me and then test it on rolling road, make sure fueling ok....
don't really wanna leave it any longer than 2 weeks tho as i've waited ages to get this programme sorted, so if anyone wants to go in the next couple of weeks let me know and we can sort a definate date????
Can also do week days if pushed!!

Nick

I need a fueling check at different boost levels and a power run, not sure how much they will charge for this though as i want to test it at 1.1bar, 1.2bar and 1.3bar to make sure it fuels ok at all of them.

I rang them today - they can't do Sat 3rd (they could do the 10th but thats to late for me - at donnington that day),

He can do pretty much any day next week mon-fri
mon - bank hol so closed
tues - all day available
wed - morning available
thurs - morning available
Fri - morning available

I mentioned that its possible more than one coupe would want to come down - he said thats fine and to give approx 20-30 min spaces between cars.

feuling check, power run (with graph) was £58 inc VAT if i remember correctly.

The guy was very friendly and helpful chap:-)

Thanks

Dan

couple of questions on this if anyone can help.

1) what is the fly wheel bhp and bhp at the wheels of a standard coupe? (is 220 at the fly)?

2) will having my shocks and springs fitted need me to get the tracking done before actually going on the RR (probably a silly question but thought it best to ask lol)

Thanks

Dan
