Since my clutch has expired, I've been putting a lot of thought into breaking my car. I know people may not be too forthcoming in telling me how much they made when they broke a car, however I have a genuine interest (feel free to PM me if you on't want to reveal on here) smile

Ok clutch is dead on mine, £480 Job to do, car worth £1800 at the end, probably more like £1600. So effectivly, £1100 - £1300 without a clutch. So, my thinking:

Engine £500 (110000 miles Holds 2.6 bar warm idle)
Uncracked Manifold £100
Refurbed Turbo (8000 miles / 6 months) £250
Wheels £200
Interior £150
Gearbox £50
Exhaust £50
Brembo's £80

Other odds and sods £300

So to me thats £1600, in other words I'd be best off breaking it.

What do you reckon? Shall I keep it, take the hit for the clutch, and just drive it into the ground?

Ben

PS My reasons for considering breaking it is I have spent £3000 on maintenance and repairing faults, and £3300 on the initial purchase. Thats £6300 over 19 Months of Ownership frown frown frown frown

Just clutch left to do then! Keep it,id say but depends how much you love and enjoy the car.
I sold mine and wish i hadnt, just because really,i knew the car, what jobs were done, its reliabilty etc.
If you sell would you want another 12months down the line? And to go through the same route replacing stuff again?
But if you do break please let me know.

Keep it, especially as you've spent so much already; you'll just be throwing it away. Keep the car and gradually work through all the jobs to make it mint again.

Running a coupe never makes financial sense, so I would say ignore the figures, and just get it fixed! wink

I havent kept a log of how much I've spent on mine, just take each month as it comes - makes Coupe ownership a lot more rewarding love

Remember at the end of the day a clutch is a wear & tear item, so I would agree with the others, get it replaced & enjoy driving her.

^^ Could'nt agree more. Always best to keep any old second-hand car you buy and spend a lot of money on, for a couple of years at least. You get your money's worth that way. Never let your heart rule your head and spend a couple of grand and then sell it because you think the bills are never going to end.
If you spend 1-2k fixing/improving a Coupe you purchased, over a 1-2 year period, it will be running very well again and you will be able to feel the difference between when you first got it and were disappointed and how you have got it to the stage you wanted it to be at in the first place and are pleased with it. That feeling will make it worthwhile.
