Recently I have been hitting 100% duty @ 5500rpm with the 440cc injectors at 3.8bar fuel pressure. This was running 1.95bar peak boost but having to use the Apexi to drop to 1.5bar at 5000rpm in order to keep the fueling in check until redline. No longer... Stage 1.Changed the crank sensor yesterday so the car can actually start. Stage 2.Install 580cc low impedance injectors with external peak and hold injector driver. Stage 3.Map car to full boost, that's 2bar peak holding 1.85bar at 7500rpm with fueling at 11.5 afr until redline. ResultWell it was fast before, no question, but now... There have been a few little modifications along the way to get to this point but at the moment she is just singing like a songbird

Good to hear you've joined the 2Bar club One can assume you’re not missing? Is it still a standard ignition system or have you upped the 12V primary voltage?

Mate.. why don't you throw out that maf sensor and go for map sensor..
630ccm injectors and stand alone ecu..
being that you know what you're doing, why not try to get dealership for something like VEMS or VIPEC or etc etc.. price range from 1000 - 2000 pounds, it would beat the hell out of Motec or any other expensive ecu's..
cheers and keep up the good work!

Well it was making 415bhp @ 5,800rpm a while back. That's with around 2,000rpm to go with soild boost to the redlin I'vw knocked up an excel sheet to have a stab at an estimate and I'm going with 510bhp Awesome work Leighton Scared any more 600cc bikes lately?

It is possible to drive the coils up to 16V on the primary circuit with the standard ECU that’s why I asked. You tried copper plugs yet? I've also found a set of coils from another car which might be quite useful if your coils begin to miss in the near future, just keep an eye on my coil thread. GT3076R still internal WG? Bet the torque is nice , I wonder how long the box will last. Interested to see a decent dyno graph. I would guess around 450WBHP if you can lay it down

Basically a ported shroud helps eliminate compressor surge by porting the compressor inlet so that excess air can be diverted back to the inlet. It makes a huge difference on part throttle for my car. I have mapped a couple of high boosting RSR turbos that boost too quickly in high gears i.e. more air than can be consumed by the engine at a particular rpm. Basically they have crossed the surge line where the turbo wants to give more so you get the air backing up and stalling the turbo. As long as it doesn't last too long then it won't damage the turbo. Trappy, 510bhp??? Not sure about that but I can confirm it is faster

Trappy, 510bhp??? Not sure about that but I can confirm it is faster If you can carry that 379lbs/ft @ 5,800rpm another 1,200rpm, then you'll be at 500bhp @ 7,000rpm. Where is this turbo likely to make peak power? I'd assume higher than Matty's 6,500rpm as it's a bigger unit. If torque does trail off dramatically over 6,000rpm then you're probably looking at a frankly pathetic 450bhp
F****** b****** thing...

Depends on which Datsun boys Yet to come across one on track that is quicker but of course there will be some one day. Anyway, I'm quite happy keeping Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Corvettes, Porsche Turbos all honest... and that was with a little less oomph Have you driven a R32 GTR?? I cant see any coupe out handling a R32 GTR TBH, mine will be back from spain soon, maybe we should put it to the test but i have over 600BHP, 4WD, 4 wheel steer and 9.5 inch wide tyres in each corner..... To take out driver skill maybe we should take a lap in each others cars?? 200sx is a different story though, much closer matched

Me too and i agree it depends on which Datsun boys and how many million bhp they have. Lets remember the coupe is only fwd and i have frightened a good few supposed well known cars with lots more bhp. What i do find interesting in the Time attack series is why a Skyline is not winning any of the classes?

Nah, it generally does what its supposed to do, which is shift some lardy bastard from A-B while wallowing around under its huge girth. Although occasionally you will see one or two doing some track work: Ringliner

to be honest it won't keep with 900bhp skylines but for what it is its a really stunning bit of kit and i would love to be taken out in it sometime. if i am fair i ahve had quite a few skylines and with much more power than the coop and with full coilovers and track setup and although it was quicker than the coop i find the coop so much easier to drive fast and don't worry what it will do to me so if i had a choice or a very high powered skyline again or fleas car i would take fleas car!

very true but totb isn't set up for skylines s its so tight and with it being mainly rwd they do better on larger tracks.
the thing is nigel i respect what you do with your coop it is a fine machine and you set great times but where are the other coops on that list? they don't really compete on the same level so either your a amazing driver or your car is far above the other coops?
to be fair the skylines are falling behind on to scoobys and evos and untill the new gtr is cheaper and played with this will remain the case.
i would love to build a coop that would be as quick as the skylines but doubt it will happen.

they have more instant grip than a skyline does thats why they are better. the skyline is rwd and not that well setup for rwd untill the back breaks traction then sends power to the front so it goes very sideways then front pulls you out of it and capterpults you but you need room to do this and the rear can't be setup very well because of this so you need a more flowing track.
if you get the back out on a gtr just as the front kicks in and let off the gas you spin so you have to be brave and keep the foot to the floor.
no such drama in the coop just be gental on the gas so it doesn't break traction.

ok thats sounds good. :-) what tyres do you run and maybe looking at even better 1/4 mile times this year? i think wet or greasy roads will catch any car out apart from trick rally slags so if you can hook up in 2nd i bet its a real machine.
out of intrest how much would a remap on a stage one coop be? and what sort of gains would i get over my gtech 1?

Hmmmmmm. more or less every 'performance' car owner i have spoke to has claimed a magic second or third gear, from escort rs turbo's to cosworths, Renault 19 16v's and 5 turbo's to tubby mr2's, and newer stuff like evo's and focus ST's. Somehow i believe Flea's second and third gear experiences may be slightly more magical than most ! Flea, would you hazzard a guess to what your top end would be now? not neccessarily provable at a testing ground, but potentially if you had more or less unlimited space (like on a private motorway for instance )

The standard 5 speed gearing would allow for 171mph @ 6,800rpm on standard rolling radius wheels.
It basically turns at 25.2mph/1,000rpm in 5th gear. I think Leighton runs at 7,800rpm and so should be capable of 196mph on the standard rims.

you say that i have seen a r33 gtst with 629bhp hit 212mph on gps and to be fair the coop has less drag than a skyline so if he can get the power above 500bhp i think he could do it

with a six speed box and an increased rev limiter, the Coupe will do 200 (with the requisite power of course)
Mine is showing about 3,600rpm at 100mph in 6th, so should be hitting an indicated 200mph at an indicated 7,200rpm
However, the speedo is not deadly accurate and neither is the rev counter (it actually reads slightly high)
With 17" wheels, the speedo is only about 5mph out at 100 (although its not linear - its about 3mph out at 30, 4mph by 60 and 5mph out by 100). I'm guessing completely, but I reckon its no worse than 10mph out by 200mph, especially with new tyres.
I have a slightly raised rev limit (about 7,300 IIRC - Flea can you confirm?) and I reckon its geared for about 190-195 at the limiter.
It would be nice if it had the power to get anywhere near this, but I'm fairly confident it would run out of puff by about 175
Its my belief that the underside of the car is too cluttered to give it true supercar speeds - most proper supercars have very flat undersides - the Coupe is just a normal car in this respect - floorpan mouldings, brake pipes, heatshields, gear linkages, mountings - all sorts of protuberances that will destroy airflow (and probably create lift as well)

Top speed is about overcoming air resistance which is proportional to the square of your speed so doubling your speed quadruples your drag. I'm not saying it’s not possible just there are many factors to consider: frontal area, coefficient drag, rolling resistance, transmission losses, air density, weight, gear ration, wheel size, power etc... If he can overcome these by sheer power then we have a new record

Even with an unlimited straight I wouldn’t attempt more than 150MPH without some way of measuring tyre temp/pressure on the fly.

so what speed would a coupe with about 260 270 bhp make? i think the standard is 156 so would the extra 40 50 bhp take it past 160?

I did about 155 down the runway at brize (work here) earlier this year indicated on sat nav... its safe to say i was bricking it! and trying to pay more attention to the road than the sat nav. car is running around 270bhp at a guess.

Milbrook? - would be nice to try the banked circle The top lane of the "circle" is hands-off at 130mph, but after that you start to feel the cornering forces build up. Go much faster and its easier to start feeling nauseous (you are leaned over at about 20 degrees) and even easier to lose concentration and hit the wall which is right next to you! Not for the faint hearted On the upside, it is a little known fact that Millbrook is available for hire by the general public, and the deal I was on allowed me use of all track facilities for £50/hour with minimum charge of £100. Go and play up and down the straight, the kappa was clearing 150mph just oer half way along - or do the same in monsoon conditions on slicks, wheelspin all the way down. Whizz round the bowl until you throw up, thrash round the Alpine handling course or the smaller track that 5th Gear use. And what fun we had going round in circles flat in second on the steering pan to test the Accusump really did work - and then the realisation that we were getting dizzy, and the only options were to go faster (and spin out), lift off (and spin out), oh, and to spin out! Probably find a group buy could bring prices down, although I did have to go down to Millbrook separately beforehand to undergo an initiation in safety, how the walkie-talkies worked etc in order to get my track licence Great place to play, but if you're going for top speed runs, stick to Bruntingthorpe or find a quiet straight junction-less piece of motorway!

Agreed - I really would not feel comfortable going over 160 in a coupe, they are really not designed for those kind of speeds.

I found 160 to be noisy (car was VERY stripped out and on track tyres) but very stable - no wandering around, no feeling of the steering going light - just like doing 100 but with the scenery on fast-forward
Its amazing how different it feels though - I think with the Coupe we can get a bit blasé about 100 - 140mph, as its so damned easy. However, despite there being only another 20mph difference, 160 suddenly seems very fast indeed.
You have to wonder what it feels like to be in the Ten of the Best winning car - last year, in a mile from a standing start, I got to a fraction under 160. Flea was about 167 IIRC, but the top cars were over 200mph - in a mile, from standing start - incredible

Reading the numbers for Kieth Cowie's R32 GTR from the redline magazine Flea was in, that car does 197mph at the half mile. 0-200mph in 823 metres... Ask Peanuthead what that feels like
