I thought I'd post up a little more info on the Alfa GTV rear subframe.
There's been talk on the forum previously of the possibility of fitting it to the coupe, but no-one has really looked at it in any detail.

The benefit is that it has far more advanced rear suspension with double wishbones and twin lower links etc. as well as being fully adjustable.

Well having obtained one it looks like it will fit to the coupe as the mounting points are in the same place. It does present some problems though -

- The GTV fuel tank is different and would be required to do the conversion as it sits integrally on the subframe, You might even need to just go with a tyre well fuel cell to be honest as I'm not sure about the GTV's spare wheel well being in exactly the same place. (not checked)

- The exhaust path would probably have to be modified.

- You would need a bespoke rear undertray

- The GTV has a wider track by 25mm a side (51mm total)

The springs and shock mounts are integral to the subframe(i.e. they do not go into the chasis) as with the coupe.

The antiroll bar on the rear is uprated compared to the coupe standard unit

If anyone is serious about making their coupe handle, then I think it's got to be better than the coupes setup just because it is adjustable, let alone the fact that it will reduce unwanted movements. But there's definitely more to it than bolting on.

Could have told you that Matt (from S.A) told me this in a PM on the old forum before it died. I believe he has this fitted on his coupe already

What sort of handling did Matt achieve Begbie? Worth the cost?

Dont know, he never said, but he also told me a cheap twin clutch solution which i never saved either

But as JohnS has mentioned already, you can see the cost is going to be quite high (fuel tank, suspension, exhaust modifications)

John the springs and shock on the coupe subframe are not connected to the body either they are all contained on the subframe. I have a friend who has done this on his tipo. Had to cut the wheel well out.

Dunno if any of the cars (tipo, coupe,GTV or dedra for that matter) have the same spare wheel well to be honest. Does the Tipo have a space-saver or full spare?

sorry, I mean is the wheel well the same size and in the same position on all these cars (which is why I mention the size of the spare wheel)

Yeah pretty spot on in the same places. I'm 99% sure that the teapot and the coupe use the same mounting points for the fuel tank, so would say that the spare wheel well is pretty much the same too

How come the GTV has so much less boot space, and rear seat space - I thought this was releated to the rear suspension setup taking up a lot more room?

I've seen a 20VT with GTV rear frame, so it's definitely possible.

It'd be good to see the finished article. I for one would be very interested in upgrading to this set up!

I can see the photos. I could before by following the links.

What I meant is finished as in the exhaust fitted etc. At the moment, it looks a little... short smile

I bought my shortshift off of Taffy20vT years ago. Unfortunately, he's now moved on...

I am sorry, but no idea about the exhaust, the guys didn't make any other photo.

Maybe the original Alfa exhaust can be modified and fitted?
The chassis is the same, so..
